L.U. is a 43 year old female who has used the ED Walker/LegSim since 2004. Her
story begins in 1989 when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the leg. She
underwent a limb salvage procedure in 1989. In 1991 she had a recurrence of her
osteosarcoma which resulted in a hip disarticulation.
CASE SPECIFIC CHALLENGES:
L.U. tried using a traditional prosthetic with little success. She found the
device bulky, hot, heavy and very inconvenient to use. She elected to use a
wheelchair as her primary means of mobility but found that people had a tendency
of "hanging over" her chair. She describes the feeling of being in a wheelchair
no longer at eye-level with others as "like being a kid."
CASE SPECIFIC SOLUTION:
In 2004 L.U. visited the Hartford Walking Systems website and saw a video of
Wendy using the ED Walker/LegSim. She contacted Joe Schrader and has been using
the ED Walker/LegSim ever since.
CASE SPECIFIC RESULTS:
Prior to using the ED Walker/LegSim, L.U. experienced back pain and strain. Since
using the LegSim the back pain has "gone away." She uses it going to church and
visiting friends. She especially enjoys now being at eye-level with people. She
uses the ED Walker/LegSim for a wide variety of daily activities including
cooking. Recently, Joe Schrader added a "basket attachment" to her ED Walker/LegSim
so she could carry items but still have use of both hands.
PERSONAL TESTIMONIAL:
"It has been almost 4 years now since I've been using the ED
Walker/LegSim. It's great to be able to stand up and talk to people eye-to-eye
without
my leg hurting or my arms and shoulders feel the strain of holding my body up. I
used to have a bit of back trouble and since using the ED Walker/LegSim,
that's gone away. I have never fallen when using the ED Walker/LegSim and that
is wonderful.
I've had crutches slip out from under me a time or
two and, of course, would fall. I use the ED Walker/LegSim while traveling
on and
boarding airplanes and store it in the overhead on the plane. I have not
removed the stabilizer from the ED Walker/LegSim but that is my next step. I'm
confident I can walk without it.
Thanks again for making a difference and life more enjoyable."
