"I can walk with the best of them."
Joe,
I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for my new ED
LegSim. It has been a godsend. As you know, I have had a tough time with my right leg. Six years ago, I dropped a 5 lb. box on my right foot it seemed like such a simple thing. To make a long story short, after
three-and-a-half years and five unsuccessful surgeries, I had my right foot amputated below the knee.
They finally did the amputation as I was suffering from severe nerve damage. My foot had become a mass of neuromas and the pain was unbearable. The amputation initially solved the problem, I became mobile and my life improved dramatically.
Life was looking good. Then I developed patella tendonitis in my right knee and I could no longer wear a standard below knee prosthesis; it was back to the wheelchair. They then fitted me with a thigh corset lacer leg. After physical therapy, I was once again walking. Then the nerve pain came back. I started having trouble wearing my leg.
My doctor examined me and felt that I had once again developed neuromas, this time in my stump. First, we tried a new leg (which we are still working on four months later). My prosthetist is amazing and I can't thank him enough for all his efforts.
I have since seen a neurologist who discovered I had a large neuroma at the back of the stump. The two doctors are currently working on a plan to excise the neuroma and fix other stump pain I am having. I guess you figured out that I once again was very limited to use of my prosthesis and had to depend on a wheelchair.
My life took a sudden turn for the better when I met
"Joe Schrader," the inventor of the ED
LegSim, at my amputee support group in Seattle. You set me up with
the LegSim right there in-group, and it was great. Within 20 minutes of walking with it, I looked like I had been using one for
years.
Now when I go to get my mail, I just get on the walker and go. I am able to keep my strength in my sound leg without having to bear all my weight on my shoulders as with crutches. Additionally I am upright...I can walk with the best of them. In the house, I can use the ED
LegSim instead of the wheelchair and it is great. I use it with and without my leg. It has truly improved my quality of life.
Joe, I don't know how to thank you and your team for all your
efforts. You're truly amazing. I want to tell you...I'm looking forward to finding a way to run
with my
LegSim with your help. I know we can do it. Keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Jeanette D.
